City of Arkadelphia, Arkansas: The City of Arkadelphia operates under the City Manager form of government. The residents of the City of Arkadelphia elect a seven member City Board of Directors who appoint the city manager. Five board members are elected by ward, and two are elected at large; one of which is the mayor position. The City Board serves the City of Arkadelphia as the policy-making/legislative branch of city government. The terms of the elected Board Members are four years. Each Board member has an overlapping term with the other Board Members. The Mayor presides over the Board meetings and serves as the ceremonial head of the city government.
Primary goals of the City Board of Directors are to set policy, approve the budget, determine tax and fee structures, and hire and fire the city manager. The Arkadelphia City Board of Directors formally meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month. The Board convenes at Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. on these nights. All meetings are open to the public.
The City Board members welcome any person wishing to appear before the Board. However, in order for the Board to take action on a citizen request, the nature of the request must first appear on the Board agenda. The citizen should notify city administration and request to be placed on the agenda and state the nature of their request. Administrative staff finalizes and publishes City Board meeting agendas by noon on Monday prior to the regular Thursday Board meetings
